Japanese Walk

Last updated August 21, 2026

Japanese Walk is an interval-walking app built to run entirely on your own device. This policy explains exactly what data the app touches, why, and — just as importantly — what it never does: there are no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and nothing is sent to any server we operate, because we don't operate one. Your data stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch, or in your own iCloud account, under your control.

Health data

With your permission, Japanese Walk reads the following from Apple Health to show live stats during a walk and personalize its calculations: heart rate, active energy (calories), body weight, resting heart rate, and date of birth. Weight, resting heart rate, and date of birth are used only to personalize your calorie estimates and heart rate zones — they are never displayed or transmitted anywhere on their own.

With your permission, the app also writes completed walks back to Apple Health as workouts, including heart rate samples, calories, and your GPS route, so they count toward your Activity rings and appear in the Fitness app.

All of this happens through Apple's HealthKit framework directly on your device. We never see this data ourselves — it moves only between the app and Apple Health, governed by the permissions you grant in iOS Settings.

Location data

Japanese Walk uses GPS to record the route and distance of your walk, including while your phone is locked or the app is in the background, so a walk isn't cut short just because your screen turned off. You can turn GPS tracking off entirely in the app's Settings — walks are still tracked by time when it's off, just without a route or distance.

Location data is stored only on your device (and, if you enable Health saving, as part of the workout route in Apple Health). It is never sent to us or to any third party.

Bluetooth

If you choose to connect a Bluetooth heart rate monitor (a chest strap or similar device), the app uses Bluetooth solely to receive that live heart rate reading during your walk. No Bluetooth data is stored beyond the current session or shared with anyone.

Apple Watch

If you use the companion Apple Watch app, your iPhone and Watch exchange walk progress, heart rate, and calories directly with each other over Apple's WatchConnectivity framework — a local connection between your own two devices. This never passes through any server of ours.

Notifications

Optional daily walk reminders are scheduled entirely on your device using iOS's local notification system. No reminder content or scheduling data is sent anywhere.

Backup

If you turn on automatic iCloud backup, your walk history is backed up to your own private iCloud account using Apple's iCloud services — not to a server we control, and not accessible to us. You can also manually export your walk history to a file you choose to save and share yourself (for example, to iCloud Drive or another app), and restore from such a file later.

What we don't collect

  • No account or sign-in is required or offered.
  • No advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking SDKs are included in the app.
  • We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
  • We don't operate any backend server that your data passes through.

Your choices

You can control or revoke Health, Location, Bluetooth, and Notification permissions at any time in iOS Settings for Japanese Walk. Within the app's own Settings, you can turn GPS tracking, Health saving, voice announcements, and reminders on or off individually. "Reset All Data" in Settings permanently deletes every walk, your profile info, and all settings from the app and this device. Because Health and iCloud data are stored by Apple outside the app itself, deleting them fully also requires removing them from the Health app or your iCloud account settings directly.

Children's privacy

Japanese Walk is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
